EURYDICE - MONDAY

Home > Season 2017-2018 > EURYDICE - MONDAY

Event Information
Orpheus and Eurydice thought their greatest marital struggle would be their differing passions and consequent difficulty in communicating with one another. Yet their love proved a language in and of itself. The pair found ways to communicate because their love conquered all. That is, until Eurydice dies. As she's whisked away to the underworld, she passes through the Lethe river and forgets everything she ever knew. How is Orpheus, while confined to the land of the living, to communicate his love to a dead girl who has forgotten not only who he is, but also what love is? Between oversized tricycles, rooms made of string, and elevators that rain on the inside, this poetic retelling of a classic Greek tragedy allows for lots of questioning. How does time or lack thereof influence the concept of love, of an urgent desire to be together? How do stories capture our memories and draw us back to our identities? What does sacrifice look like? How far love can extend, perhaps to the depths of the underworld and back? And ultimately, can love truly conquer all?
